How we helped the Water Industry Commission for Scotland move into the cloud
The Water Industry Commission for Scotland (WICS) is a non-departmental public body with statutory responsibilities, which manages the regulation of water and sewerage services across Scotland. The organisation consists of a small team of around 20 people and is based in Stirling.
What we did
This organisation approached French Duncan as they were keen to learn more about cloud-based accounting and financial systems, and knew that French Duncan were a Gold Partner of Xero.
French Duncan’s Entrepreneurial Services team met with the client, demonstrated the Xero software and worked with them to plan and implement this solution. The process required migration from the organisation’s previous financial software which French Duncan actioned, and we worked with them to ensure all systems and procedures were updated and still relevant.
Impact we had
The Xero system is now fully implemented and staff have found it easier to use, more efficient and able to provide more accurate management reporting. The introduction of receipt banking has helped improve procedures, in particular for expense claims. Overall this has all resulted in significant time being saved, allowing staff to focus more on providing meaningful reporting to the organisation, which allows a better and more robust understanding of the finances.
Following the successful implementation, French Duncan also introduced our IT services team who have since been working with WICS to advise on cyber security, specifically around spam emails. In April 2019 WICS will also start working with our Payroll department, and French Duncan’s HR services team are also now in discussion about how they may assist the organisation moving forward.
"We have received a very professional, helpful and approachable service from all staff at French Duncan and look forward to continuing our relationship with them.”
